CLASSROOM, 2011-2012

Part of a larger body of work on the notion of change, this series uses the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, a driver in technological innovation, as a case study to explore conditions of learning today. My interest lies in the transfer of societal paradigms from generation to generation, and the role of learning spaces in this context.
How do classrooms reflect and facilitate our distant and broken relationship with ecological systems? How do spacial arrangements reflect hierarchical structures? What role does technology play? What materials are used, and what is the relationship of the external world to the classroom context and content? I photographed the spaces in a latent state -- during break, empty and without turning lights on.

All images archival pigment prints.
